Your country home from home- Sopwell House
One Saturday we ventured out to the Hertfordshire countryside (which actually isn’t that far away from us) to enjoy a delicious breakfast at Sopwell House. Sopwell House is a luxury hotel that is set amongst 12 acres of countryside. They have over 100 rooms, two restaurants, bars and a health and wellbeing centre.
We were not able to book breakfast we were just told to turn up before ten o’clock as that is when it is their busiest time. We arrived a little before 9:30AM and were taken to the breakfast restaurant. We were able to pick the table of our choice and as soon as we were seated the impeccable table service began.
The service at Sopwell House was faultless. The waiters and waitresses were very efficient and incredibly polite they really did make our visit even more enjoyable. We were served tea and coffees and were told to help ourselves to the breakfast that was on display in front of us.
There was so much choice including; Yoghurt, berry compote, selection of cereals, dried fruit and seeds, assortment of pastries, smoked salmon with cream cheese and capers, full English breakfast, freshly baked bread to toast, jams and spreads and also an array of hams and cheeses.
As you can imagine we didn’t know where to start and we basically worked our way through the entire selection, we were one of the lasts ones in the restaurant when it reached 11oclock.
We thought the breakfast was charged fairly at £17.50 per person. The only thing we were slightly confused about was the fact you were allowed to dine in your robes but then again it is a spa hotel and they do want you to feel like you are home from home so we will let them off.
We would love to return to Sopwell House for a Spa weekend as we were blown away by the quality of the breakfast. we can only imagine how relaxed and refreshed we would feel after an entire weekend of pure relaxation.
We started our blog over a year ago in October 2015 but never really posted anything regularly. We were new to the blogging scene and didn’t really know what we were doing. We would write posts about fitness, travel and food as this is what we were and still are passionate about.
One evening we decided to have a blogging evening and decided we wanted to up our game. Firstly we knew we had to change the design of our blog as we were really unhappy with the way it looked. We did some research on how we could change the design on WordPress and finally found one we were happy with. We also knew we had to pay for a domain as we didn’t want http://www.threebrits.wordpress.com any longer, I mean no one was going to take us seriously with a URL like that. We had such a productive evening and it got us excited for the months ahead! We Planned so many blog posts that evening so we knew the direction we were heading.
Instagram has always been our favourite social media platform, we love taking photos and could scroll though our insta feed for hours at a time. When we first set up our blog In October 2015 we focused a lot of our time on Instagram and definitely neglected Twitter. Some people might find this odd, because now we have been blogging for a while we have realised that Instagram is the hardest place to get followers! Its all a learning curve though right!?
We didn’t really know what to use Twitter for, we connected our blog to twitter and tweeted the odd tweet but that was as a far as we went. One evening we came across something called a Twitter chat and decided to join in and it’s safe to say we have never looked back! Everyone we have spoken to on Twitter has been so supportive. The blogging community has some of the most positive, professional and humble people we have ever spoken to and they have encouraged us to make decisions we would never have made before hand.
Twitter chats are great, and we look forward to joining in on them in the evening (they are usually between 6-9pm GMT) and meeting new bloggers and finding blogs to follow. We really enjoy the Sunday chats, the perfect end to the weekend. A couple of weeks ago we held our first twitter chat, it was so much fun an we cannot wait to do another one.
Last December we decided to bite the bulett and share our blog with our family and friends on Facebook something we had never done before. We were embarrassed and scared to share our blog with people we knew and we don’t really know why. We love our blog we talk about it and work on it all the time so we don’t know why we were so scared to share it with people. When we did finally share it on Facebook we were so overwhelmed with the support we got especially from people we hadn’t seen or spoken to in years.
Some people would probably think we are mad for getting up at god knows what time on a Saturday morning for photoshoots in the freezing cold or spending our Friday evenings baking instead of going out and drinking.
We honestly don’t know what we would do without our blog, it is a hobby that we have fallen in love with and have so much planned for the future.
Trail running takes place on softer surfaces such as grass and mud in the beautiful countryside. We love putting on our trainers and getting outside, trail running gives you freedom to run, explore and often get lost whilst enjoying the beautiful scenery.
Running on softer surfaces is much better for your body especially your ankles, shins, knees and hips (all of which we rely on greatly). During the summer months we prefer trail runs as opposed to road runs especially as we both live super close to the woods. As the evenings begin to get darker during the winter months unfortunately we have to say goodbye to our mid week trail runs and return to road runs.
On January 8th 2017 I took part in a 10 mile trail run called Rough ‘N’ Tumble in a little village in Wiltshire called Pewsey. The race started at 11:00am at the Milton Lilbourne Village hall, the locals were selling pre race tea and coffees and had baked lots of cakes.
I hadn’t done much research on the race so didn’t know what to expect which is probably a good thing, before we had even got to the first mile we had to climb up a vertical hill on our hands and knees.
The puddles were so deep there was definitely a Vicar of Dibley moment half way through but there was no time to stop we just had to continue with soaking wet feet (my worst nightmare!). Everyone was so friendly helping each other on the way round which it definitely made the run more enjoyable.
They had drinks stations at mile 4 & 8 where they were also handing out jelly babies. The Locals were all cheering us along which was a great support especially when you get to mile 8 and you have another hill ahead of you.
Once we had finished the race we stuck around to listen to the results before heading home and showering and tucking into the homemade pizza we had made the night before!
I would really recommend taking part in the Rough ‘N’ Tumble it’s not like your usual road race!
Walking its free and one of the easiest ways to get fit and become more active yet so many people HATE walking. As a society it has become too easy to get from A to B without using your legs. There are so many different types of transport these days it has resulted in us not having to walk.
Growing up our parents were all keen walkers, at the weekend we used to go on family walks which at the time we hated! We didn’t understand why our parents enjoyed walking and we certainly didn’t agree when they said ‘come on it will be fun’.
Now we go on walks all the time exploring new places whether this is in the beautiful countryside or exploring the streets of a bustling city. If we have the option of walking or using transport we will always choose walking.
A walking workout will help strengthen your heart and lungs whilst also toning your legs and bum (Bonus). Walking is a great way to help maintain a healthy weight and strengthen your bones and muscles both of which are incredibly important.
Last year we each purchased a Fitbit so we could keep track of how many steps we were taking in a day, working in an office can reduce your daily step count dramatically so we wanted to make sure we met our daily target of 10,000 a day every day. The Apple Iphone also comes with a ‘Health’ app that will tell you how many steps you walked in a day.
Ways to make your walk more enjoyable
- arrange to meet your friend for a walk, this way you are less likely to cancel as you have made a commitment.
- Explore new places
- If you are walking on your own try listening to some music or a Podcast.
- Phone a friend and have a catch up (time will fly by)
- Pack some healthy snacks and water if you are going on a long walk.
Get outside and enjoy this beautiful world we live in.
Now who would’ve thought visiting a field full of lavender could be such fun!?
We came across this farm by chance after seeing some friends visiting we googled lavender farm and found the beautiful farm in Hitchen and just had to go!
Hitchen is about an hours drive from us but it was well worth the trip, you arrive at this farm pretty much in the middle of no where to a car park heaving with cars. We overheard the carpark attendant telling a customer that when he took the job he didn’t ever think it would be this busy. I think this concept has really taken off.
You pay 4 pound fifty and get give a large brown paper bag, pick up (borrow) some scissors and the huge field is yours. You can spend as long as you want and fill your bag with lavender that you have cut yourself. It was soon therapeutic and lovely to walk through the delicious smelling lavender and of course take many instagram worthy pictures!
You can even get married here in a marquee looking out over the fields – imagine the photos!
There was also a cafe, however as it was such a sunny day the cafe was heaving. Instead we headed to the local village and went to the pub.
We cannot wait to return next year (the farm is now closed, season is over!), and I think I might have to treat my mum to a visit, she would love it!
